MN Women's Care Provider Profile
Sara Brown,
Certified Nurse Midwife

Sara brings an incredible depth of experience to her role as a nurse-midwife. Her career started nearly 20 years ago first as a doula then as a nurse on HCMC’s Labor & Delivery unit and Midwife unit. Her desire to become a midwife came after witnessing hundreds of women gracefully labor and give birth under the watchful eye of a midwife.

Sara’s philosophy of care is a perfect reflection of what we strive to achieve. She says:

“Every birth and every family is important. Women are experts on their body and know what is best for them. I view my role as an educator and guide providing full informed consent. I feel especially called to serve families who may have had a previous difficult birth and are hoping for a different experience."

Sara provides a calm and reassuring presence in the delivery room that families much appreciate. One of her patients said;

"I had a wonderful experience under the care of Sara Brown for the birth of my third child. Her calm, kind demeanor and patient presence made me feel relaxed and safe throughout my labor and delivery, and helped me have a successful unmedicated VBAC. I received excellent care before, during and after delivery. I am thankful to have found Sara Brown!"

Naturally, most people connect nurse-midwives with prenatal care and attending births. While Sara loves to support women during pregnancy, she also has a passion for working with women throughout their lifespan. Whether it be teaching a teen about her body, providing contraception or discussing health and wellness into the menopausal years. She has also completed additional training in pelvic floor myofascial release and treats pelvic floor disorders.

On her days off, Sara enjoys hanging out with her family, bee keeping, trying new foods, traveling, hiking, exploring the Boundary Waters and overall living simply and practicing mindfulness.
